The Influence of Low Protein Diet upon the Hepatic Changes of the Rat Infested with Clonorchis sinensis
Kang Tai-Woong

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the co-relation between histopathological changes in the i-ver and low protein diet in Clonorchis sinensis infested rats. Seventeen white rats were used for this purpose. All rats were infested on the same day, with
100 metacercariae of Clonorchis sinensis from fresh , water fish (Pseudorasbora -parva).
The infested rats were divided into two groups.
Groun A composed of 8 rats and Group B composed of 9 rats. Group A was fed a standard diet containing 18% protein while Group B was feed low protein diet
containing only 9% protein. Both groups were supplied with sufficient amount of vitamins and lipotropic substances. Each rats were fed 13.0gm of the diet. During the experiment, body weight was recorded weekly. Four months after infestation, all rats were killed and the livers were examined by histopathological techniques. The results were as follows:
1) The body weights of Group A fed the standard diet increased remarkably compared with those of Group B fed the low protoin diet.
2) There were more worms present in the livers of Group B fed the low protein diet than were present in the livers of Group A fed the standard diet.
3) Histopathological changes in the livers of Group B were marked while in the livers of Group A only slight changes were observed. The changes in the livers of Group B, were mainly degeneration, epithelial proliferation of bile ducts, fibrosis, and cellular infiltration in the portal spaces.
